Doing Research in the Harshest Place on Earth - Antarctica
When it comes to learning how tiny sea creatures move through water, there is no place on Earth that David Murphy won’t travel to. That sense of purpose led the mechanical engineering assistant professor to the National Science Foundation’s Palmer Station on Antarctica’s Anvers Island for a week at the end of 2019 (91ÊÓÆµCollege of Engineering).

His idea was to use his photo-voltaic technology concepts to remove pollutants from the air and then make that system small enough to use in his son’s room at night to help with his allergies. The 17th Annual Student Research Symposium will be held on April 16th, 2020. The purpose of the Research Symposium is to showcase the innovative research and creative work that 91ÊÓÆµSt. Petersburg students have produced during the year under the tutelage and with the support of the university’s faculty.

T2C-Energy began back in 2012 as a University of 91ÊÓÆµ spin-off company by the technology developers. Through the support of private (USCleantech), Federal (Department of Energy), and State (Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services) agencies, the company has scaled the technology out of the lab and to the pilot/demonstration level (Citrus County Chronicle).

Federal Data Undercounts Fatal Overdose Deaths Caused by Specific Drugs
Fatal misuse of specific drugs is a bigger problem than federal statistics make them appear, especially in Florida. According to data collected by a researcher at the University of 91ÊÓÆµ, between 2008 and 2017, roughly one-in-three overdose deaths in Florida caused by opioids were not reported by the federal government (91ÊÓÆµNews).
