  • Crafting your 3MT庐 Competition Speech 馃捑

    Sept. 26 @ 12PM:
    This lecture is designed to help you understand and develop your best 3MT庐 presentation so that you're prepared to enter the 91视频competition in October 2025. We'll share tips for success including how to frame your research for any audience and considerations for your slide's design. What is 3MT庐?

  • Online Mini Thesis & Dissertation Retreat 馃枼锔

    Oct 22-25

    Join for two 3-hour block writing sessions each day, with a facilitator present for quick 5鈥10-minute break-out sessions regarding writing concerns if needed. 

    Students are encouraged to show up and write for the full duration of as many sessions as they are able.














    There is a Workshop on Oct. 22 at 1PM, in conjunction with the writing retreat. The ideas presented will help students engage more reflectively in their sustained writing over the course of the retreat.

    Competition Details
    The Three Minute Thesis (3MT庐) is an academic research communication competition developed by  (UQ), Australia. Now, 3MT庐 is held in over 900 universities across more than 85 countries worldwide.

    Graduate students present the significance of their research in less than 
    3 minutes, with only one static slide.

    Awards:

    • First Place: $300
    • Runner-up (Second Place): $200
    • People's Choice: $100

    These are meant to help with ETD-specific formatting.

    What's the difference between Workshops

    - ETD Formatting Workshops (weekly) cover formatting guidelines and last approximately 1.5 hours. Drop in for help with document formatting.

    - ETD Process Workshop occurs once a semester and covers all aspects of the process from Registration to Review. 

    - Book a 1-on-1 Help Session with an ETD Specialist, these are only 15-minutes and can cover the ETD process including document assistance if needed. Bring focused questions.

  • National Postdoc Association SmartSkills

    NPA Smartskills have recurring sessions every 4th Tuesday of the month at 3PM.


    Many postdocs wonder about the pathway into industry without ways to learn the truth about the journey.

    Join leaders from industry as they share their thoughts on the current industry postdoc landscape, discuss misconceptions about postdocs and careers in industry, clarify differences between industry and academic postdocs and positions, offer recommendations to postdocs seeking to enter industry positions, and provide insights on future trends that may affect postdocs in industry.
    This is intended as a collaborative discussion so bring your questions!
