Currently a board member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) in New York and a Marketing Execution Specialist for SAP, started as a Public Relations and Advertising major at 91Ƶafter growing up in Brazil. Since leaving USF, she remained involved with the university through BRASA at USF, an organization that helps with the academic and professional development of Brazilian students.

Albanus started her undergraduate studies in Brazil at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul initially planning on coming to the U.S. for a semester-long exchange. When deciding on a university to study public relations, Fernanda Albanus was drawn to 91Ƶearly on in her search. “I saw that 91Ƶhad a big Brazilian community,” Albanus says. “I was very excited about it.”

Albanus hit the ground running when she arrived on campus, intent on learning as much as possible during her time at USF. “One of the first things I did was knock on the door to the 91ƵAthletics department,” Albanus says. Her initiative led her to a USF Athletics internship where she worked during basketball, soccer and many other games and loved it.

“I had such a passion to work in the sports industry,” Albanus recalls. “And I knew I had so much to learn.” That realization led Albanus to apply to 91Ƶand transfer as an international student. “I wanted to learn more about sports marketing from the source,” she says. Albanus admitted that there were aspects of the marketing internship she found challenging, especially as English was not her native language, particularly because “it was a fast-paced environment.”

Despite the challenges and the quick-moving nature of the internship, Albanus grew and thrived in her role. She supported the production of games, managed marketing activation and planned fan engagement projects on social media.

Her continued passion and interest in marketing led Albanus to the AMA at USF, where she was the Vice President of Marketing. “The AMA was so important for me to grow as a professional. We were awarded best website of the nation under my leadership during my last semester,” Albanus recalls. “It was a very important moment for me.”

After graduating from 91Ƶin May 2022, Albanus continued her work at SAP as a Media and Relations & External Communications Intern, which led to a career track position within the company.  During her time in Miami, Albanus earned her MBA and worked in different sectors before moving to New York City.  She was a stage crew manager for a few years and even worked during the basketball season at Miami Heat games. “I think trying new things is an important part of the journey,” Albanus says.

Now in New York, Albanus works as a Specialist in the Global Marketing Department of SAP and as a Board Member of the Sponsorship Committee for AMA New York. “It’s almost been a year since I’ve been here,” Albanus says. “I like my team. I like my job. Despite appearing like a linear career now that I’m here, the whole process was challenging.”

When asked what advice she had for current 91Ƶstudents, her words were practical: clean your bedroom and be on time. “I’ve been reading the Art of War recently, and one takeaway I’ve found is that those who arrive first have an advantage,” Albanus says. “So, clean your room and get to class ten minutes early so you’re organized and ready to listen by the time class starts.”

Albanus has high hopes for the future. “This might be ambitious, but I want to manage a team,” Albanus says when asked what her next steps are professionally. “I hope to inspire people to be their best around me.” As she is currently a huge source of inspiration for students in the  Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications and the students in BRASA at USF, Albanus is well on her way to achieving this goal.
