Not all heroes wear scrubs: Meet the industrial hygienist keeping us safe

Dr. Jason Garcia鈥檚 journey to a career in public health at USF鈥檚 College of Public Health (COPH) didn鈥檛 begin in a lecture hall. It began at his first job as a microbiologist witha Nestl茅 plant, shortly after earning his undergraduate degree in biology from Florida Gulf Coast University. His role was to ensure that no chemical, biological or physical hazards contaminated the food supply. As he worked to prevent recalls and outbreaks, which have the potential to become serious public health crises, he realized that his efforts had a name: public health.
